Residential Centre for Sculpture Courses
Telephone 01969 623056

Our residential centre is in the more quiet part of Middleham near the Top Cross, opposite the Medieval Castle and away from the main road and Market Place.
We only accept small groups on our courses so that individual members are given every opportunity to work towards their own goals and benefit from our high quality personal tuition.

ACCOMMODATION:  There are three guest rooms all on the floor above the sculpture studio. The front bedroom (1) has the best view of the Castle and the passing racehorses each morning, it is twin bedded with en-suite facilities as has the double bedroom (2) at the back of the building. The third room, is a single room,  close to separate toilet facilities. We also have a 'student style' room available at a reduced rate...

Additional accommodation can usually be arranged nearby with all our course members having their meals together at the Arts Workshop.   Please phone for further details

CATERING -  Meals here are of very high quality, home cooked  and prepared with considerable individual care and attention taking into account any special dietary requirements or preferences.  We are not licensed but wine is often seen on the dinner table either from generous course members or as gifts from ourselves.

COURSE PATTERNThe two summer week studio courses begin on Sunday with dinner at 7-30pm and end on Saturday morning.   Non residents usually only attend for the five studio workshop days Monday to Friday 9-30am to 5-0pm although they are welcome to book to join us for any of the evening meals.....
Weekend courses and tours begin on Friday evenings with dinner at 7-30pm and end in the late afternoon on Sunday.  Non residents normally only attend on Saturday and Sunday.
Midweek courses, with Wednesday and Thursday being the studio workshop days begin for residents with an evening meal at 7-30pm on Tuesday.   Extra nights B & B at our reduced rate of 23 per person can be added to extend the course...

COURSE TUTORS:

Peter Hibbard is the resident tutor for the majority of studio courses and for the tours.  It is now 20 years since Peter and Judith Hibbard established the 'Old School Arts Workshop' at Middleham.  Its international reputation as a centre of excellence for residential short courses is partly built on Peter's comprehensive knowledge of sculptural technique, his skill as a teacher and his personal experience as a professional sculptor, a former assistant to Henry Moore and an artist whose studio is packed with new creative sculptural work.

Duncan Storr - is a very popular tutor with a wealth of information to offer course members.  He is a professional illustrator whose work is regularly used by many of the major publishing houses and as CD covers etc.,   His exciting personal work explores both real and imagined subjects..........

In addition to our programme of studio courses we recommend Middleham as a centre for relaxing holidays with easy access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
